In November 2004, a local man had been reported missing in the late evening. There had been very low temperatures overnight and there was obvious concern for his wellbeing.
Police requested the assistance of a helicopter with thermal imaging capabilities and Rescue 177, a Sea King from HMS Gannet arrived on scene. Despite remaining on task for almost two hours, they were unsuccessful. The helicopter was stood down when a foot party discovered a body in woodland not far from the village. A sad outcome.
