There’s some lovely walking country around West Linton, and roughly three miles northwest of the village is Baddinsgill Estate, which last time I was up there, had a nice herd of highland cattle.

They’re quite placid and docile but naturally protective of their calves. Be careful if you have a dog with you though!

Here’s a couple of fine examples. Don’t be fooled by the hair over the eyes… they can see you.
